The newly introduced EV number plates will feature a distinct design to easily identify electric vehicles on the road, setting them apart from conventional petrol or diesel-powered cars. This move aligns with Malaysia’s broader vision of reducing carbon emissions, encouraging the adoption of clean energy technologies, and transitioning towards a greener, more sustainable future.

The new EV number plate, known as the JPJ ePlate, is based on cutting-edge IDePlate technology developed by the German company Toennjes. According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the ePlate will be manufactured and distributed by local vendor Handal Ceria, which was selected through an open tender process. The JPJ ePlate adheres to European/UN number plate standards and is equipped with advanced safety systems designed to prevent forgery and fraud, ensuring the security and authenticity of vehicle identification.

This state-of-the-art technology not only aligns with global standards but also enhances road safety and security measures, further boosting Malaysia's commitment to modernizing its transportation infrastructure.

As EVs gain traction worldwide, Malaysia’s latest move is a proactive step in fostering greater public awareness and support for the EV industry. The launch of the dedicated number plate not only marks a new chapter for Malaysian roads but also signals the nation’s drive toward becoming a regional leader in green technology.
